I'm sorry, but a WW2 game where Germany doesn't have the swastika flag just doesn't seem right to me. Call me sad (or call me a Nazi, if you want to), but I just had to change the German flag, and here is the result.
If you want to change the flag yourself, just right-click and save the image below. You will then need to convert it to a .TGA file (sorry, couldn't upload it here as a .TGA), which you can do, for example, in Photoshop. Then just copy it into the gfx/flags folder in HOI 3, remembering to backup the previous GER.tga file. Load up HOI 3 and Germany should now have the swastika flag. Much more appropriate...

They've changed the format. Now you have to change the German flag in the image flagfiles.tga.

Stupid politically correct rules saying you have to change an historically correct flag in a video game as no to upset people, ridiculous!
To do this you'll need photoshop, I have the CS5 version if your wondering.
1. Right click the swastika flag above and save image to desktop.
2. Open it in photoshop.
3. Then save in photoshop click "file" in the top lefthand corner and then pick "save as"
4. In the new window that pops up choose the "Targa" format and rename the file "GER" without the quotation marks and click "save".
5. Go to the install directory of the game, this can differ dependent on your operating system. mine is windows 7 64bit and is located here:-
C:\Program Files (x86)\Paradox Interactive\Hearts of Iron III\gfx\flags
6 Simply copy over or drag and drop your swastika flag file namely GER.tga in to the flags folder and REPLACE the current one.
Done!
You can also use any other NAZI flag from the web and using photoshop to convert, the flags need to be 93 pixels wide by 64 pixels in height and a .tga format to move in to the game directory. Although I guess this would't be historically correct, you have the choice and its up to you as it should be!

As a dedicated HOI gamer from the beginning, I agree the Swastika Flag gives it a certain ambience thats very cool, though at my resolution its hard to see it i detail.

Heck yeah,.I suck at computers and I got it to work,.had to download photoshop,(had never used it),.And I figured it out,.sweet! Its totally annoying playing this game without the German FLAG,.Heck i could have beared it if they could have at least used the ww1 version,.Stupid

Used an online jpeg to tga converter and copied and replaced the original and it works perfectly! Doesn't mess up checksum or gameplay!
